Trip Planning
Travelling in Morocco with children is easy and rewarding, but the transport needs a bit of planning: most taxis have no child seats, long drives need breaks, and medina riads are not reached by car. This guide explains how to get around safely and comfortably as a family.
Moroccan rules require children under 10 to sit in the back of the car with a seatbelt, but there is no general obligation to use a child seat, and petit taxis and grand taxis do not provide them. For young children, this means you either bring your own seat or book a transfer that supplies one.
Child seats, luggage and pushchairs are included in our fixed price per vehicle. There is nothing extra to pay.
| Family size | Vehicle | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 2 adults + 1 child | Sedan | Room for a child seat and normal luggage |
| 2 adults + 2 children | SUV or van | A van is better with big suitcases or a pushchair |
| 2 adults + 3 or more children | Van (up to 6) | Space for several seats and all the bags |
| Two families or grandparents too | Minibus (up to 12 or 17) | Everyone travels together |
Prices are per vehicle, not per person, so children do not add to the cost. For example, Marrakech Airport to the medina costs from €18 per car, and a van for up to 6 people costs €30.
After a flight, waiting at a taxi rank with tired children is no fun. With a pre-booked transfer, your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign, the seats are already fitted, and the driver tracks your flight in case of delays — with 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. Read our Marrakech Airport arrival guide for the steps after landing.
Some popular family routes are long: Marrakech to Essaouira takes about 2h30 and Marrakech to Agadir about 2h45. A few tips:
Tell us the number of adults, children and their ages. We send the right vehicle and child seats for free.
Cars cannot reach most riads in the medina. Your driver stops at the closest point and walks with you to the door, and your riad can send someone to help. A light, foldable pushchair or a baby carrier is easier than a large pushchair in the narrow lanes.
Short trips work best with children: the Ourika Valley (45 minutes away, with rivers and small waterfalls), the Agafay Desert for a camel ride at sunset, or Imlil in the Atlas Mountains for an easy walk. With a private driver you go at your own pace and stop whenever the children need a break.
Children under 10 must sit in the back with a seatbelt. Child seats are not generally required by law, but they are strongly recommended for young children.
No, petit taxis and grand taxis do not provide child seats. Book a private transfer with child seats or bring your own.
