About This Route
The drive from Marrakech to Essaouira is one of Morocco's most scenic journeys — 190 km of winding roads through the Haouz Plain, passing argan forests and Atlantic coastal landscapes before arriving at the Blue City's ancient medina.
Our private transfer covers the full route in approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Unlike shared buses or grand taxis, your vehicle departs at the time you choose, stops where you want, and drops you directly at your riad, hotel, or any address in Essaouira.
We offer an optional stop at a local argan cooperative on the way — a genuine experience with no obligation to buy. Just mention it when booking.
Unlike a shared grand taxi or the CTM/Supratours bus lines, a private transfer from Marrakech to Essaouira departs exactly when you're ready, with no waiting for other passengers and no fixed schedule to work around. Whether you're catching an early morning boat tour in Essaouira's harbor, or simply want to check into your riad in the medina by lunchtime, a private driver adjusts to your plans, not the other way around.

Most travelers choose this transfer either as a direct one-way trip before continuing their Morocco itinerary, or as a full day excursion with a return to Marrakech the same evening — ideal for those based in Marrakech who want to see Essaouira's ramparts, blue fishing boats, and Portuguese-era medina without changing hotels. Families, couples, and small groups all travel comfortably in our air-conditioned Skoda and Mercedes vehicles, with enough luggage space for a full day trip or a longer stay on the coast.
Whether you're heading to Essaouira for the wind-sport beaches of Moulay Bouzerktoun, exploring the historic Skala ramparts, or simply want a relaxed alternative to public transport, our Marrakech-Essaouira transfer is designed to be simple, fixed-price, and stress-free from the first WhatsApp message to drop-off at your door.
Route Guide
The private taxi from Marrakech to Essaouira covers about 190 km on a good, fully paved inland road. It does not follow the coast: you cross the plains west of Marrakech, then roll through argan country for the last hour before the Atlantic appears. Here is what the drive looks like.
| Stage | Approx. time | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup in Marrakech | 0:00 | Your driver meets you at your hotel, at the nearest car access to your riad, or inside arrivals at Marrakech Airport (RAK). |
| Plains west of Marrakech | 0:00 – 1:00 | Open farmland and olive groves; on clear mornings the High Atlas stays visible behind you. |
| Halfway café stop | around 1:15 | Roadside cafés around Sidi Mokhtar are the usual place for a coffee and a toilet break. Ask the driver whenever you want to stop. |
| Argan country | 1:45 – 2:15 | Argan woodland and women’s cooperatives. This is where the optional argan stop happens, free of charge and with no obligation to buy. |
| Arrival in Essaouira | about 2:30 | Drop-off at your hotel door or at the medina gate closest to your riad. |
Times are for a direct drive in normal traffic. With a coffee break and the argan stop, plan on about 3 hours door to door.
Every price is per vehicle, not per person, and it is fixed when you book: no meter, no fuel surcharge, no extra charge for luggage, early mornings or late arrivals. The more of you share the car, the cheaper each seat gets.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Price per vehicle | Per person (full car) |

| Sedan (Skoda Octavia or similar) | Up to 3 | €60 | €20 |
| SUV | Up to 4 | €75 | €19 |

| Minibus (Mercedes Sprinter) | Up to 12 | €150 | €12.50 |

Cars cannot drive into Essaouira's medina. If you are staying in a riad inside the walls, your driver stops at the nearest gate car park, usually Bab Sbaa or Bab Marrakech, and can call your riad so someone meets you. Porters with hand carts wait at the gates and will wheel your bags to the door for a small tip; agree the amount before you set off. Hotels in the new town and along the beach get a door-to-door drop-off.
Essaouira is usually much cooler than Marrakech in summer, often by around 10°C, and the trade wind blows strongly from spring to late summer, so pack a light jacket even in July. Leave Marrakech in the morning to be in Essaouira for a grilled-fish lunch at the port, or mid-afternoon to catch the sunset over the Skala ramparts. Book a few days ahead in July and August, during the Gnaoua music festival, usually held in June, and during the MOGA electronic music festival in early October, when Essaouira fills up fast.
