About This Route
The drive from Essaouira to Marrakech covers 190 km through argan forests and the Haouz Plain — a beautiful 2h30 journey back to the Red City.
Your driver picks you up at your riad or hotel in Essaouira and drops you at any address in Marrakech, including the medina and airport.
We can stop at a local argan cooperative on the way at no extra charge. Just mention it when booking.
Most guests book this transfer at the end of a few days on the coast, either to spend more time in Marrakech or to catch a flight home from Marrakech Airport (RAK). Because the car is yours alone, you choose the departure time: an early start to be in Marrakech for lunch, or a slow morning in Essaouira and an afternoon drive with the sun behind you.
Unlike the bus, there is no station to reach with your luggage and no fixed timetable. Your driver loads your bags at the medina gate or your hotel door, drives straight to your riad, hotel or terminal in Marrakech, and you pay only at the end of the trip. Families, couples and groups of up to 17 travel in air-conditioned sedans, vans and Mercedes Sprinter minibuses, all at a fixed price agreed before departure.

The private taxi from Essaouira to Marrakech covers about 190 km on a good, fully paved inland road and takes about 2 hours 30 minutes without stops. You leave the Atlantic behind, cross argan country in the first hour, then the long plains that lead to Marrakech and the High Atlas.

Times are for a direct drive in normal traffic. With a coffee break and the argan stop, plan on about 3 hours door to door.
All prices are per vehicle, not per person, and fixed at booking. There is no meter and nothing extra for luggage, surfboards in the van, early departures or late arrivals.

The price is the same whether you are dropped at a hotel, a riad or Marrakech Airport (RAK). You pay the driver in cash, in euros or dirhams, at the end of the trip.
Essaouira's medina is car-free. If you are staying inside the walls, your driver waits at the nearest gate car park, usually Bab Sbaa or Bab Marrakech, and we agree the exact meeting point on WhatsApp the day before. Many riads send someone to help carry your bags to the gate, and porters with hand carts are available there for a small tip. Hotels outside the medina and along the beach get a door pickup.
Much of Marrakech's medina is also closed to cars. Your driver takes you as close to your riad as the lanes allow and, if needed, calls the riad so a member of staff comes to meet you and guide you through the alleys. Hotels in Gueliz, Hivernage and the Palmeraie get a door drop-off.
We drive straight from Essaouira to Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) at the same fixed price. For an international flight, leave Essaouira about 5 hours before departure: 2 hours 30 minutes on the road, a safety margin for traffic or a stop, and the recommended 2 hours at the airport.
