City Guides
Every autumn, MOGA turns Essaouira into one of the most talked-about electronic music festivals in Africa: house and techno by the Atlantic, art and wellness sessions, and free parties in the old medina. This guide covers the dates, the venue, tickets, and how to get to Essaouira from Marrakech or Agadir.
Whether you are planning MOGA Essaouira 2027 or simply want to know what the festival is about, here is everything you need to organise the trip: where to stay, how to travel between the medina and the festival site, and what to pack for the Atlantic wind.
MOGA is an electronic music festival created in 2016 and held in Essaouira, on Morocco's Atlantic coast. The music is mainly house, deep and melodic house, afro house and techno, with international headliners alongside Moroccan DJs and collectives. Beyond the dance floors, the programme includes art installations, workshops and wellness activities.
The festival is known for its relaxed, international crowd — guests come from more than thirty countries — and for mixing club culture with Essaouira's slow pace, ocean views and Gnaoua heritage. In 2026, MOGA celebrated ten years since its creation.
MOGA takes place in early October and lasts five days. Recent editions:
| Edition | Dates | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1 – 5 October | Four stages at the festival venue |
| 2026 | 30 September – 4 October | 10-year anniversary edition |
| 2027 | Expected early October | Dates not announced yet |
The official dates and line-up are usually announced several months in advance on MOGA's own website and social media. We update this guide as soon as the next dates are confirmed.
The main festival takes place at the golf resort about 10 minutes' drive south of Essaouira, between the dunes and the ocean. It is too far to walk comfortably from the medina, especially at night, so plan how you will get there and back each day.
Essaouira Mogador Airport is around 15 minutes from the venue by car, Marrakech is about 2h30 away, and Agadir about 2h15.
MOGA IN tickets are sold online through the festival's official website and partner platforms, usually in waves with prices rising as the event approaches. The festival sells out: the 2026 edition was sold out before the dates, with only official resale left. Buy early, buy only from official channels, and avoid tickets offered on social media by strangers.
MOGA OFF events are free, though some venues have limited capacity.
Most festival-goers fly into Marrakech or Agadir, which have far more international flights than Essaouira, then drive to the coast.

Fixed-price transfer from Marrakech or Agadir to your riad in Essaouira — sedan, van or minibus for up to 17. Pay the driver on arrival.
This is the part most people forget to plan. Petit taxis run between town and the festival site, but late at night, when thousands of people leave at the same time, the wait can be long and prices are often negotiated on the spot.
Whatever you choose, book as early as possible: Essaouira is a small town and festival week fills most of its rooms.
Early October in Essaouira is usually mild, often around 20–25°C during the day, but the Atlantic wind is strong and nights get cool, especially outdoors late at night.
Arrive a day early or stay a day after the festival. Walk the Skala ramparts at sunset, eat grilled fish at the port, explore the medina's woodworkers and art galleries, or spend an afternoon at Moulay Bouzerktoun or Sidi Kaouki beach. If you are flying out of Marrakech afterwards, see our Essaouira to Marrakech transfer.
MOGA usually takes place in early October. The 2026 edition ran from 30 September to 4 October; the 2027 dates have not been announced yet.
The free MOGA OFF events take place in Essaouira's historic centre, and the ticketed MOGA IN festival at the Hôtel Le Golf d'Essaouira & Spa, about 10 minutes' drive south of the town.
Mainly house, deep and melodic house, afro house and techno, with international headliners and Moroccan DJs.
Yes. The MOGA OFF programme on the first days of the festival is free, though some venues have limited capacity.
Essaouira is 190 km from Marrakech, about 2h30 by car. A private transfer from Marrakech or Marrakech Airport costs from €60 per car for up to 3 people, from €90 for a van for up to 6.
The drive is about 195 km and takes around 2h35 along the coast road. A private transfer from Agadir Airport costs from €75 per car.
Petit taxis are available but can be hard to find when the festival closes. Groups often book a private driver who drops them off and picks them up at an agreed time.
As early as possible, ideally as soon as you have your ticket. Essaouira is small and festival week is one of the busiest weeks of the year.
