Trip Planning
Tipping in Morocco is never compulsory, but it is part of daily life and a small tip goes a long way. This guide gives realistic amounts in dirhams for transfer drivers, day-trip drivers, taxis, guides and the other people you will meet on your trip.
One euro is roughly 10 to 11 Moroccan dirhams (MAD). Tips are usually given in cash, in dirhams, and handed over directly with a thank you. Euros are accepted too, but coins cannot be exchanged in Morocco, so give notes or dirhams.
For private drivers, the tip depends on the length of the service, not on the number of passengers. These are common amounts per group:
| Service | Usual tip (per group) | About |
|---|---|---|
| Airport transfer in the city | 20–50 MAD | €2–5 |
| Long transfer (e.g. Marrakech to Essaouira or Agadir) | 50–100 MAD | €5–10 |
| Half-day trip with a driver | ~100 MAD | ~€10 |
| Full-day trip with a driver | 100–200 MAD | €10–20 |
| Multi-day tour driver | ~100 MAD per day | ~€10 per day |
Give more if the driver helped a lot — carried heavy bags up to a riad, waited for a long flight delay, or made a special stop for you. Give less, or nothing, if the service was poor.
Tips are never included in our fixed prices and our drivers will never ask for one. If you are happy, a tip is a nice way to say thank you — but the price on your booking is all you have to pay.
In a petit taxi in town, Moroccans do not usually tip; rounding up to the next 5 or 10 dirhams is enough. In a shared grand taxi between cities, no tip is expected. If you hired a whole grand taxi for a long trip and the driver was helpful, 20–50 MAD is generous.
Fixed prices per vehicle, no hidden extras, and payment to the driver on arrival.
Our transfers have fixed prices per vehicle: for example Marrakech Airport to the city from €18, Marrakech to Essaouira from €60 and Marrakech to Agadir from €120. For more on prices, read how much a private driver costs in Morocco and our Marrakech to Essaouira taxi price guide.
No. Tipping is customary and appreciated, but it is always your choice and depends on the service.
Around 20–50 MAD for a short airport transfer and 50–100 MAD for a long transfer between cities, per group.
About 100–200 MAD per group for a full day, and around 100 MAD per day for a driver on a multi-day tour.
Dirhams are best. Euro notes are fine, but euro coins cannot be exchanged in Morocco.
It is not expected. Rounding up the fare to the next 5 or 10 dirhams is enough.
No. Our prices are fixed and do not include a tip. Our drivers never ask for one; a tip is only a thank you if you are happy.
