About This Route

Taghazout to Essaouira

Taghazout and Essaouira are the two big names of the Moroccan surf coast. They are about 155 km apart on the coast road, roughly 2 hours 30 minutes by car, with the bay of Imsouane halfway.

Your driver picks you up at your surf camp, apartment or hotel in Taghazout, Taghazout Bay or Tamraght and drops you at your riad or at the nearest gate of the Essaouira medina. Surfboards travel free.

Taghazout to Essaouira: What to Expect

The road from Taghazout to Essaouira, stage by stage

There is no motorway on this part of the coast: the N1 is a good two-lane road with curves near the cliffs. Plan on about 2 hours 30 minutes without stops.

Arrival in Essaouira	about 2:30	Drop-off at your riad, at the medina gate nearest to it, or in Diabat or Sidi Kaouki.

Travelling with surfboards

As a guide, a sedan takes one board bag plus the luggage of up to 3 people. With two or more board bags, choose the van or minibus so the boards travel inside. Tell us how many boards you have when you book.

Arriving in the Essaouira medina

Cars cannot drive inside the medina. Your driver stops at the gate nearest to your riad, usually Bab Sbaa or Bab Marrakech, and porters with carts can take your bags to the door for a few dirhams. Many riads send someone to meet you if you ask.

Bus or private taxi?

Bus from Agadir to Essaouira (CTM or Supratours, about 3 hours): you first need a taxi from Taghazout to Agadir bus station, and board bags may be charged as extra luggage.
Private taxi or transfer (from €70 per car): one ride from your surf camp to your riad, boards included, at the time you choose.
