Private Excursion · Morocco
Cross the High Atlas to Morocco's most famous earthen ksar, with a stop at the Glaoui kasbah of Telouet — a private day trip from Marrakech.
About This Excursion
Aït Ben Haddou is one of Morocco's most iconic sights — a fortified ksar of earthen houses and kasbahs, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rising above the Ounila river on the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Its architecture has made it a favourite film location, from Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator to Game of Thrones.
The drive is part of the experience: you cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), with photo stops on the winding mountain road, then detour to Telouet, the 19th-century kasbah of the powerful Glaoui family, known for its richly decorated interiors.
It is a long day, with around 3.5 to 4 hours of driving each way, but the mix of mountain scenery, history and architecture makes it one of the most rewarding day trips from Marrakech.
