About This Excursion

Had Dra

This half-day trip from Essaouira combines rural Moroccan life with the Atlantic coast. It starts at Had Draa, about 25 km inland, whose weekly souk — held on Sundays ("had" means Sunday) — is a genuine local market for fruit, vegetables, spices and livestock, not a tourist show.

You then drive through the argan forest, where you may see goats climbing the trees, and visit a women-run argan oil cooperative. The route continues to Sidi Kaouki for a walk on its wide, wild beach, before returning to Essaouira past Diabat.

It is an easy way to see the countryside and coast around Essaouira without committing to a full day.
